New Amherst is a new urbanist community in Canada, located in Ontario's "feel-good town" Cobourg. The village includes both residential and commercial buildings that harmonize with both Cobourg and Port Hope's historical architecture as they follow classic design principles. Inspired by new urbanism concepts New Amherst includes parks, a community garden, and amenities within walking distance allowing for a more pedestrian-oriented way of living.
Max LeMarchant one of the founders of New Amherst has been a member of NTBA (National Town Builders Association) for years and has committed to developing a community that embodies new urbanist beliefs—providing people with traditional homes that are close to nature and important everyday amenities which will overall enhance one's quality of life.
Brown Design Studio has had the privilege of being involved in multiple projects in New Amherst Homes including the newly built condominium. This accessible multi-family design is comprised of six units all including 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, each unit being 1,120 square feet. The design showcases two large bays and front balconies, as well as numerous windows that allow for an abundance of natural sunlight. The 6-unit condominium effectively fills the gap of missing middle housing, allowing for a diverse option that caters to varying income levels and lifestyles. Our traditional design concepts allow for a timeless architectural aesthetic. We are thrilled at how this design turned out and are excited to see our design brought to life in the beautiful community of New Amherst Homes!
